Description | The Royal Society celebrated its 350th anniversary with a Summer Science Exhibition at the Royal Festival Hall, London. The Robot Detectives exhibit was one of 22 exhibits selected for the exhibition. It featured our wall climbing robots that perform non-destructive inspection by gaining access to very large and safety critical infrastructure that maybe located in extreme and hazardous environments. The exhibit demonstrated, with a hands on approach, how to detect hidden defects using ultrasound and eddy currents. In addition it demonstrated magnetic flux focussing techniques to optimise magnetic adhesion and passive levitation of objects. Over 46,000 visitors included fellows of the Royal Society at the convocation to witness the award to Prince William of a fellowship of the society. |
