Abstract

Im Sinne einer Review werden die aktuellen Beiträge zur Metaphernforschung in der Kognitiven Psychologie und in der Sozialpsychologie vorgestellt und diskutiert. In beiden
Forschungsbereichen wird ein kognitives Verständnis von Metaphorik vertreten, das die Arbeiten von Lakoff und Johnson in der Kognitiven Linguistik zum Ausgangspunkt nimmt. Als zentrales Unterscheidungsmerkmal erweist sich die Differenzierung in die Erforschung des Phänomens "Metapher« und seiner Funktionsweisen für die Prozesse des Verstehens und der Wissensrepräsentation auf der einen Seite und die Anwendung der Metaphernanalyse als Methode zur Erschließung anderer psychologischer Konstrukte auf der anderen Seite. Der Überblick zeigt, dass experimentelle Grundlagenforschung und
angewandte Forschung zwar von denselben theoretischen Prämissen ausgehen, diese jedoch sehr unterschiedlich interpretieren und sich gegenseitig kaum zur Kenntnis nehmen.
Zentrale Lücken in der Metaphernforschung werden identifiziert und ihre Bedeutung fürweitere Untersuchungen diskutiert.
