Description | A live performance as Dane Law, headlining at the Iklectik performance space in Waterloo. This is part of my extended body of work exploring the musical affordances of the computer through developing my own bespoke performance software. This software allows me to improvise with algorithms, drawing on techniques such as Euclidean rhythms and Markov chains to "offload" elements of the performance to code (Toussaint, 2005). My approach is influenced by the live coding practices, a movement which emerged in the early 2010s wherein performers use algorithims to create club and club-adjacent music in real time (Collins and McLean, 2014).
