Abstract

O desenvolvimento de ferramentas, modelos, estratégias e outros métodos para preservar ou documentar sites tem progredido (por exemplo, BRUGGER, 2008, 2009; ROGERS, 2013), mas para a preservação da rede ser bem-sucedida também é preciso compreender como um ambiente dinâmico, em que seus componentes estão se propagando, pode ser apreendido. Para permitir a futura reconstrução da sua estética, fundamento ou legado, é crucial entender o contexto em que esses sites funcionam. Em um período de cerca de vinte anos, as pessoas se acostumaram à navegar na rede e encontrar todos os tipos de informações, simplesmente por clicarem de link em link. Enquanto a informação se dissipa, o contexto em torno de como a informação surge, as camadas que uma pesquisa ou um clique em um link pode acarretar, é imediatamente esquecido, já que o novo surge em milissegundos. A dinâmica da web se tornou invisível para muitos de seus usuários e a forma como os dados surgem foi esquecida. Ao focar na preservação da arte na rede enfatizarei a importância de se apreender uma esfera mais ampla de plataformas e interações sociais onde muitas das obras de arte prosperam. Ao mesmo tempo em que destacarei algumas dificuldades em se preservar esses contextos, o storytelling será explorado como um método para se desenvolver e enriquecer a compreensão histórica das culturas online.
