In this eighth instalment of our ECG series, we examine the ECG changes that occur during
myocardial ischaemia and infarction, and place them in the context of underlying pathophysiology
and clinical management. Because of the size of the subject, we will address it in two parts. In this
first part we examine the coronary circulation, the pathophysiology of CHD, and the diagnosis and
treatment of ST elevation MI (STEMI). In the second part, to be published next month, we will
complete our discussion of STEMI, before moving on to non-ST elevation MI (NSTEMI) and unstable
angina.
