Soja & Kanai (2006) use the terms “global city region” to refer to “a new metropolitan form characterised by sprawling polycentric networks of urban centres …” Such networks are becoming
identified with both the potential and the reality of ‘smart’ city infrastructures of connected transportation, financial, energy, health, information and cultural systems.
