Abstract

A test rig has been produced to investigate the transient and steady state behaviour of a domestic gas fired boiler of the high thermal capacity type. The boiler and its test rig have been modelled and the developed model has given responses that show good agreement with those obtained by experimentation. The boiler model has also been used satisfactorily to simulate other tests for which experimental data is available. Additional mathematical models have been derived to give realistic simulated part loads for the boiler model, these represent a lounge and its skirting heating system and a domestic hot water storage system. Combinations of these models have been used to investi gate the influence of various control systems on boiler and system efficiencies and energy consumption.
