Abstract

This dissertation presents the design of an automatic
chemical analyser used to monitor pollutants in the earth's
atmosphere,
The automation is achieved by use of a microprocessor—based
control and acquisition system. The system digitizes and stores qualitative and quantitative measurements of the pollutants and some environmental variables. The design allows the analyser to run unattended for up to a week, after which the accumulated data is fed into a minicomputer for storage, analysis and display,
A software design aid package was proposed and implemented,
on the minicomputer, to help construct the required system software
for the project, An overview of this package is presented in the
last section of the ‘dissertation,
