Abstract

It was shown that the performance of an air-conditioned room can be represented by two mathematical models. These describe the performance of:
(a) the air conditioning plant
(b) the room,
The models were independent, except for the supply and extract air temperatures which are easily predictable.
Some of the plant components were analysed in detail and fitted into the model. Further work is required to
completely analyse the performance of all the plant components in order to evaluate:
(1) thermal efficiency of the system.
(2) running cost per annum,
(3) transfer functions of the plant components,
(4) the effect of a parameter change,-
(5) the optimal parameters for the system, to facilitate the design of similar plants,
The room air and temperature distribution was measured, Some progress was made in fitting the distribution into the room model, Much more work is required to relate the temperature to the air movement
so as to describe:
(1) air flow pattern in the Lecture Theatre,
(2) the effect of changing the supply air distribution.
(3) distribution of comfort regions in the Lecture Theatre,
(2) the effect of daily and seasonal load variations on comfort regions.
